Self-balancing scooters have two wheels on each side. This is where you can use the electric motors as well as the tilt and speed sensors. These sensors will detect the revolutions per minute or rpm of each wheel and send that real-time data to the gyroscope and speed control on the main body.

Gyroscope and Speed Control

This is where the data from the tilt and speed sensors housed inside the wheels are sent to. These data are then sent where they are to be processed.

Battery Pack

All hoverboards have one battery rechargeable pack inside it. The capacity of the battery depends mostly on the brand, but most of them are equipped with 36V 4400mAH battery packs. These can travel 10-15 miles on one full charge thus safe to ride. But this can change depending on the terrain, the speed, the incline and the weight of a rider.

Tilt Sensors

The tilt sensors are responsible for telling the gyroscopic sensors how far you are leaning which are then sent to the logic board. So if you lean forwards more, the logic board will tell the electric motors to spin faster as it tries to match with your center of gravity.

In average, hoverboards have an average top speed of 8 mph or 12.8 kph although there are some that are faster. Boards from the more popular brands have more torque in them which allows them to go faster and can scale up 5-10 degree inclines.
